Great location as it was walkable (5 mins or less) to the National Park entrance, main boat dock for tours and transportation, as well as the town for restaurants and stores. The breakfast was lovely and nice to have coffee and drinking water throughout the day. The A/C was strong and the shower had hot water. The room and bathroom were clean. The bed, linens, and pillows were comfortable. WiFi was good. Great that they can arrange tours for guests. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was nice to chat to other guests in common areas and have use of the kitchen to prepare meals. Beautiful garden with friendly cat.

L'emplacement. Bon rapport qualité prix. Personnel sympathique.
The town is ok - plenty of eateries. The accommodation at Cabinas Sports Fishing was wonderful! The early morning boat trip was very enjoyable, as was the Jaguar trail in the National Park. The Budda Cafe has a nice vibe and good food. We were there in April so missed the turtle nesting season but still very much worth a visit!

What a gem.
What a gem. We had three nights here but in hindsight could have done two (a lot of people just do one). Two nights gives you a chance to soak up the atmosphere and explore the village from end to end.
It was an experience getting there - a 1hr boat trip (which can be longer depending on the water levels). On arrival we were surprised at the number of bars and restaurants - a huge variety. Many on the waterfront and how wonderful to have no cars. Our hotel met us at the wharf and transferred our luggage.
The hotels are right amongst the locals houses - so you really get to know the village and can hear all the 'goings on'. Just walking around you see the houses, some of the challenges living there, the flora and fauna.
We did a motor boat tour at 9am - would recommend doing this at 6am as the forest wakes up. Its amazing on the water - seeking the birds close up, camen, monkeys and iguanas. You will see more animals on a tour of the forest but its still worth the experience.
The motor boat tour includes national park entry - but I would recommend using a guide in the park as despite what you think its really hard to spot animals without the 'experienced eye'; and of course its their livelihood. I also did a night tour - there were a lot of other night tours - we walked along the route to the airport so it didn't feel super secluded - but we did see an armadillo, spiders, a snake, sloth and an iguana. Just goes to show nature is all around us - but again I would never have seen it without the experienced guide.
Overall its quite an experience and would suggest Tortuguera is a 'must have' on a Costa Rica itinerary.

Loved the fact that the boat dropped us off at the hotel's dock and picked us up here as well. Checkin was a breeze but make sure you have the cash to pay for the room and any tours. Canoe/boat tours, day hikes, night walks were arranged by the hotel in advance for very nominal rates. The tours start right at the hotel and hence very convenient.
The hotel sits on the banks of the river and the views are lovely especially during dusk and dawn. We experienced torrential rain one afternoon and during the night. The rain in the afternoon did not last long. The canals are accessible by boat, canoe and kayaks. Tortuguero is laid back and a nice place to wind down and experience time float by.
Great place to see Great Green Macaws fly by during dawn and dusk. We also saw the last of the turtle hatchings make their way to the sea. Wonderful sight to experience. The town and beach are easily accessible. The canals are teeming in wildlife. We saw green basilisks, iguanas, jacanas, toucans, caimans, herons and monkeys (howler, spider and capuchin). On the night walk we saw frogs (Savage's bullfrog, red-eyed tree frog, some snakes, and a sloth at close range.
The hotel staff were nice. The free breakfast was an added bonus. Laundry service was available for a fee. The town was easily accessible by foot. Local food at the sodas was fulfilling. Overall a wonderful experience!

It was like going to the Amazon River and experiencing wildlife and diversity. It was a multi cultural place with a taste of how locals villagers live , ocean access, river access and the best part is watching conservation of turtles. Turtle night tour is a must do!!?

Town was better than pictured. Walking to everything is easy. Favorite restaurants were Miss Miriams next to the football field and Budda Cafe overlooking the river. Went on three turtle tours and the canoe tour. All great. Used Tuanis Tours for 2 turtle and canoe and Leonardo for private turtle tour. Grocery store carries beer and liquor at reasonable prices.

The Tortuguero area is considerably different from the rest...
The Tortuguero area is considerably different from the rest of Costa Rica. Isolated from land transport, all access is done either by boat or plane. Opt for the boat if you can. It's cheap (around 8000 colones round trip from La Pavona), and despite being on a public transport you'll have a tour experience. The trip can take up to 1,5 hours, with safety conditions guarateed (life vests) and you'll be winding through the florest canals until you reach the Tortuguero sandbar. much like running down the Amazonas, The village is very small but with a great ambient of friendly people (general fact in all CR) with plenty of options for food/drinks, accomodations. Tortuguero life runs around sightseeing (National Park, turtle tours, and cannoeing in the canals). At night you'll have plenty of options for sunset and dinning. You're in a protected area for marine turtles and the mindset is all around that. Forget about bathing in the river or the beach, as one it's inhabited by crocodiles and the other with bull sharks,
We had an amazing time in Tortuguero. Hotel Serendipity took us in by boat and helped us to the hotel which is beautiful, very clean, and in a good location in town. We were able to walk to the national park, to the beach, and into town, and ate amazing local meals prepared fresh daily by their kitchen. Their tour guide also took us on an excellent boat tour where we saw toucans, macaws, herons, and lots of other wildlife. Tortuguero was beautiful and I would 100% recommend this hotel.
A lovely spot at a reasonable price. Best of all was the helpfulness of staff. Our son was ill while we were there and we were walked to the nearest clinic. They also helped arrange our transport out to Moin and change it for us when another option became available. Good breakfasts and bottomless coffee :)
The hotel is currently having some building projects (a new pool and bar area!) which was busy but quiet during the day. We would love to go back when its finished!
The host was very friendly and helpful, showing us where the local shop and drinking water supply was. Anything extra we needed for the kitchen he provided. Cleaned the apartment and bedding during our stay. He offered many other things and was very helpful all round. The property is in the heart of the local community and very close to the national park entrance, as well as an easy stroll into town or to the beach.
This a beautifully appointed, cozy cottage, well landscaped and located on the border of the national forest and away from the hustle and bustle of the center of Tortuguero. Rodrigo and Ariana are wonderful hosts, very responsive. They hooked us up with a great guide, Alfonso, for an early morning canoe trip into the national park, as well as a hike up the hill in nearby San Francisco the next afternoon.
Very nice and clean room, especially the bathroom. The best shower we had in over two weeks in Costa Rica! Unfortunately, a mirror was missing in the room (since the rooms are very new, maybe that's the reason).
The staff is very helpful and friendly, especially Carmen from the reception. She is super helpful and also took care of personal matter. She was always very supportive.
Located along side Tortuguero National Park, it is a good escape from the stress of urban life. Husband and wife Anita and Gerardo and son Victor made sure my stay was safe and comfortable not to mention providing excellent meals. Help organize tours and transfers for me like a pro. I will strongly come back and refer this property to friends
I was very unsure about the location initially as it is a river bus or taxi ride out of Tortuguero town (as at January 2023, river bus ‘periferica’ $2 pp, taxi-boat $15), but in the end I was happy with my choice. It was wonderfully quiet with beautiful gardens and a great place to relax between canal trips and walking in the national park.
We stayed here to experience nature. The lodge fully lived up to that, with excellent reasonable priced tours and excellent guides. Recommend the simple grounds tour for wildlife viewing. Lodge has great facilities, nice pool, and is kept very well. Meals are a bit expensive, but everything in Costa Rica is a bit expensive for what you get.
Awesome location and views! The views from the restaurant and the bar overlooking Rio Tortuguero are beautiful. The food was good. They have two swimming pools and a private entrance to the beach. The place is full of beautiful birds and the boat tours of the river were really nice. Overall, a really nice stay.
Our stay was very comfortable. We liked having a kitchen available, especially in the morning. Oscar and family were very helpful in orienting us and helping us with activities. We appreciated that the location was close to the national park and not in the crowded part of town.
This hotel is the best option in town. I can’t believe is almost 7 thousand colones with a great location, good breakfast and all the attention from doña Marina. You will feel at home in the very heart of Tortuguero. This place will be always my first option!
The location is incredible with a beautiful, well maintained garden. Willis offers to arrange tours & makes sure you get there on time.
You can get to Tortuguero main dock or National Park by boat or a hike along the beach behind the lodge.
Very nice property with possibility to take the breakfast infront of the water. The owner helped us to book our following Trip we could ask for boots and got them for free to go to tortuguero national Park. The breakfast were very good.
The location was great. Close to the beach and just 1 km from the Tortuguero town. It was nice to wake upp early and walk on the beach and then walk to the pueblo for lunch/dinner or to go on some tour.
The staff was also great.
CLEAN!! First place I stayed in Costa Rica that didn’t have ants crawling around. Location was awesome as it’s not directly in the busy area but within walking distance to it all. Very friendly staff. I highly recommend.
Awesome tour guide Luis! After spending 2 weeks across much of Costa Rica, he was our favorite! He was passionate about his hometown, Tortuguero!
Great view and outdoor spaces! Lovely breakfast!
Location central to Tortuguero Village, close to the park entrance and very close to the beach. Hostel-like atmosphere. Helpful staff including booking all kinds of tours. Aircon worked well.
- hot water in the shower! Not an obvious thing in Costa Rica 😀
- very comfortable bed
- AC in the room
- Nice location next to the beach
- very clean
- Good breakfast
