Excelsior Palace Portofino Coast 5 stars

Hotel in Rapallo

Featuring panoramic views of Portofino Bay, Excelsior Palace is a luxury 5-star hotel offering 2 restaurants, sun terraces and spacious rooms, many with sea views. I very much liked that due to low season we were offered a free upgrade and got a spacious room with a balcony. I also liked the historical furniture and decorations. They are old and sometimes imperfect but still create an ambience. The breakfast area overlooks the small bay of Rapallo and is very beautiful. The selection of breakfast foods was good, even though somewhat smaller than in other five-stars. Perhaps due to the low season (but the price was also lower than in other five-stars). Salmon, melon were present as well as custom-made omelette (but you need to ask the waiter for it, otherwise you will not know that such possibility exists). There is an outdoor swimming pool overlooking the Mediterranean sea which is open during the day and seems to be free of charge for all hotel guests.

AMARE IL MARE Affittacamere 1 stars

Hotel in Corniglia

Set in Corniglia, 2.6 km from Guvano Beach, AMARE IL MARE Affittacamere features views of the sea. The apartment had a wonderful terrace with a magnificent view on the sea and the village Manarola. So most of the time we spent outside. Cinzia and Roberto offered great support and were great hosts. A highly recommended place when visiting Cinque Terre.

FAQs about hotels in Liguria

A Spectacular Sea of Colour

Although one of Italy’s smallest regions, Liguria punches well above its weight for incredible scenery. Its coastline stretching from the French border to the port of La Spezia is lined with brightly coloured houses, including those spectacularly hugging cliffs in the Cinque Terre villages.

Equally impressive is Portofino harbour, one of the most beautiful in Italy. In a country that counts Venice, Sorrento and Capri amongst its harbour towns, that’s quite some accolade. Next door Rapallo has a long promenade watched over by a castle.

Levanto’s promenade is supported by pillars on the beach below and overlooks mountains descending into the Mediterranean Sea. Portovenere at the tip of a peninsula has a Gothic church on a rocky outcrop.

The Liguria capital is Genoa, Italy’s busiest port and home to one of Europe’s largest Old Towns. Varazze to the west has a sweeping beach, as does Alassio – 2 resorts with lots of Liguria hotels on the beach on Booking.com. A fortress guards the entrance to Savona harbour, while Albenga has medieval spires and cobbled streets.

Low hills are the backdrop to Imperia’s beach and neighbouring Diano Marina is lapped by turquoise waters. When thinking of Liguria hotels, luxury springs to mind and nowhere is this truer than in exclusive Sanremo, home to an annual music festival and glamorous casino.
