There are plenty of bistros and pubs in the town. We ate in the Torrent Walk hotel and the food was beautiful and plentiful. There was live music over the weekend in the town which was a great addition.
There are lots of country walks and a short drive to the beach at Barmouth.

Dolgellau is a small but compact town with shops and pubs etc easily accessible. Main car park by the river is on the edge of town but a minutes walk away from the centre. There could be more choice of restaurants and cafes but we found a hotel (The Ship) that served good food.

The parking was not good steep narrow road I think once inside the property there was 44 steps or stairs some very steep and narrow, wouldn’t recommend to guests with any type of mobility issues. Lounge furniture needs replacing very old and uncomfortable lounge smelt musty. One of the bedrooms very damp with mushroom type mould Growing on wall and carpet. Bathrooms very nice modern plenty of them. Everything you needed supplied in the kitchen. Beds very comfortable lovely bedding. Garden unkempt and garden furniture rusty.

A well maintained property, with delightful hosts.
A well maintained property, with delightful hosts. Breakfasts very good.
Lovely gardens and views of the countryside/hills. Room facilities good, comfy & cosy. I plan to stay here again when next visiting the area. I have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
Good base for lots of things. great walking area. I used it as a base for a golfing break as it's in the centre of a triangle of some great links golf courses incl St David's [Harlech], Aberdovey, and Porthmadog, And the spectacular Welshpool GC with amazing views over 5 counties! The wonderful village of Portmeirion [famous for it's use in the 60's TV series 'The Prisoner'] is not too far away either
The house was MASSIVE, much bigger than I had anticipated. This meant we were not on top of each other. But, its very homely and plenty of size. Great laundry facilities, when you are away for the weekend and need to get uniform sorted for the next week. Everyone slept well. We used the kitchen table for breakfast. Parking 2 cars was comfortable. I would like to keep this place a secret so that I can come back with my family and investigate the Dolgellau area, would love to stay here again. Cross Foxes just up the road serves superb food.
it’s entire house in the heart of the authentic Wales village with the stone houses surrounded by all attractions Snowdonia can offer. In the house you have everything what you need for your stay. Even the WiFi speaker. It really feels like at home.
The village has nice selection of restaurants, pubs, coffee shop, supermarket as well as local wine merchant (where you can enjoy your wine in a cozy place).
We stayed for couple of days with our friends, who’s been visiting from another country and all of us enjoyed it.
The Felin Ship was an ideal place, in a quite location on the outskirts or Dolgellau, for myself and five friends to meet up, and to share an outdoor activity holiday. There is simply so much to do in the area. Hill walking, watersports, cycling etc. The property was very spacious, with plenty of room to park all six of our cars. We absolutely loved the beautiful gardens leading down to the river, and the hot tub. Had the weather been poor, I'm sure we would have made more use of the games room.
Found this place last minute on Booking.com after I felt the need for a break and to be close the sea.
A great find indeed !
My two children and I stayed in the "Stables" and it has everything you could possibly need for a holiday, full cooking facilities, fridge, freezer, large dining table, 3 bedrooms, including one with en suite. Lounge area. And absolutely wonderful views ! Only a 15 minute drive to the beach
We felt, safe, happy and cosy !
Can't wait to return!
Betty and Richard were friendly and helpful and the hotel is an exquisite Victorian house with huge rooms right in the middle of Dolgellau.
The breakfast had all anyone could have wanted and because it’s a small hotel we all sat at the same long table and the discussions were fun.
Betty and Richard were having a barbecue the first night and invited me to go free of charge. I was going out but when I got back the party was still going on. Brilliant.
Wow! What a find! It was formerly a hunting lodge which was remodeled into a hotel. Our room was fantastic with a breathtaking view out the window. The restaurant, however, was phenomenal and provided easily the best meal of our travels! Truly a five star experience.
Generous hosts. Room had modern decor, well-equipped kitchen, nice breakfast options available, and a comfortable living area. Lots of on-site parking, and Dolgellau is a pretty town to spend time in. The area was quiet, and convenient for hiking in Snowdonia park.
The location & surrounding areas are beautiful. Wales is breathtaking. The Welsh lush green scenery, rolling hills / mountains, lakes, sheep, cows & nearby beach are awesome. All enhanced by the good, dry, bright, sunny weather we had. I took so many photos.
An excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Lovely hosts, very friendly with plenty of tips for local area. Very comfortable room with nice extras such as mini fridge with fresh milk for hot drinks and welsh cakes.
the property is full of character, with exceptional views of the mountains and breathtaking scenery in the area. Dolgellau is only a short walk away and the owner was helpful and friendly throughout our stay.
The staff, the food, the comfort was all outstanding. I have no doubt that the owners will manage to fix this hotel as the first 6star accommodation in Wales. I can not fault their devotion to this aim.
