Brooklyn is one of the most diverse places on Earth. Old, new, rich, not-so-rich. Every cuisine and kind of neighborhood. Prospect Park is in great shape and safe. The new(ish) waterfront parks by the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Heights are in super condition and have great view of lower Manhattan. Walking the bridge is a really highlight. So much more reasonable than staying in Manhattan too, and just a really short subway ride to all the best lower Manhattan attractions and neighborhoods. People have a lot of crazy ideas that big cities are bad and broken in the USA. It’s just not true in Brooklyn. It’s a great place that’s better than it was 20-30 years ago.
We loved the Museum of the Moving Image. I am a frequent museum go-er but had never heard of this museum. Since it was right around the corner from where we were staying, my husband and I decided to go -- and were we ever surprised and impressed. We could have spent all day there. Words can't describe how great this place is. If you are a movie or TV buff, this is a must-see. Even if you are not (like me), you should still go. I'm sure you'll be bowled over with this place.
New York City is the best city in the world as far as I’m concerned. It was a wonderful place to visit - so much to see and do. We (two women) walked almost everywhere, including at night, and never felt unsafe. We spent a lot of time exploring Times Square, Hells kitchen, the Broadway area, Little Italy, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, and we also walked the High Line, which is so unique and beautiful. We visited the attraction RiseNY which we really liked, Rockefeller Center, FAO Schwartz, The LEGO store on 5th, and M&M Immersive Experience. We took a Secret Food Tour of Chinatown, Little Italy and Nolita, a Gangsters and Ghosts tour of Chinatown, Little Italy, and Greenwich Village, saw Book of Mormon, and took a pedi-can tour of Central Park. Highly recommend all of these! We rode the subway, and again did not feel unsafe. We ate Breakfasts at the Times Square Diner & Grill, Mom’s Kichen & Bar and Carnegie Dine and Cafe, all of which we liked very much. We stayed at the Belvedere Hotel in Hell’s kitchen, which was terrific. Great location, reasonable price, excellent service. We were there for three days and walked 22.5 miles. It was an incredible trip. I can’t wait to visit again and see some of the things we missed, and spend more time at some of the places we especially enjoyed.
Brooklyn is my home town, so im very familiar with how to get around. This hotel happen to be walking distance to one of my favorite bargin stores of all time. This hotel has a bus stop right in front of it that take you express into the city. During my stay i would walk the few block to the train station and once i was done with my day in the city i would take the express bus straight to the hotel, what a luxury. I always enjoy my time in New York !
Comparing this trip (post-Covid) to one immediately before Covid lock downs, there are so many FEWER tourists that it makes the city wonderfully pleasant to visit/stay and you, the visitor, feel like a native. Even major mid-town tourist haunts (Times Square, 5th Avenue, Rock Center, Saks, Bloomingdales, etc), seem vacant by NYC standards. Amazing to be able to walk these, and others (St. Pat's, the MET, subway lines, Staten Island Ferry, 911 Memorial/Museum ) without a crush of humanity and abhorrently long lines for entry. HOWEVER ... and, there's always a "however" ... prices and entry criteria have changed and the City is more expensive than ever. Still ... well worth a visit.
Great restaurants and cocktail bars! Shout out to Laser Wolf, Deux Chats, With Others and Baby Blues (breakfast). Domino Park’s a great place to walk and see across to Manhattan. Easy access to the city via subway.
