Beautiful island! Would recommend 3 full days here.
Beautiful island! Would recommend 3 full days here. We had one day renting a scooter and going to the national park (1h30 hike) and 2 caves near the National Park. Then we went on the night boat trip with kayaking & swimming to see the bioluminescence plankton. Then the next day we went on the Lan Ha Bay & Halong Bay boat trip with kayaking. Both trips were booked with Cat Ba Local who we'd highly recommend! Then the third day we walked around town to see the markets and went to the 3 beaches. Then hired a tandem bike in town in the evening! Lovely island so allow time to relax and enjoy it. It was very easy to get around and book any trips the day before via tour agencies or hotels.

It is convenient to travel to Cat Ba from Hanoi city, only 3 hours travelling. You can enjoy both sea and forest at the same trip in Cat Ba island. Food is the most I like in Cat Ba, especially sea food and ice cream.AAnonymous - 6.0Scored 6.0

There is no beach in the bay. You have to travel further afield. It would be good to know when your chosen hotel/accommodation is on a steep hill. Cat Ba has a great little market, a few good restaurants, good foot massage and friendly folks

Cat Ba is a nice spot to just chill. There is good accommodation around and lots of eating place to choose from. You can also spend 8 hours cruising on the bay if you wish with lunch included. The cruise was very enjoyable. Oasis restaurant on the main street is a great place to eat, drink or have a cup of coffee. The food is great there. They have a pool table there and it's free to play. If you want to go to the beach, it's near the Flamingo Resort which is a 20 minutes walk to the left of the main road if you're facing the bay.

We were looking for a quiet place to rest ourselves and we found this homestay. Rooms have a lot of space, cool, and there’s also a beach 200m which the owners of the hotel are cleaning up and it is good for sunbathing or swimming. Linh, the owner, is fantastic and helps you with everything you need (she arranged for us a bus back to Sapa in the far north!). It is also possible to take one of the hotel scooters, the best way to cross the island. Thank you again!

Excellent location: a couple of minutes walk to the sea front, very near the beaches, where you can swim, and a beautiful walkway along the coast. Near the market where you'll find a good and inexpensive place to eat. Also plenty of restaurants and bars around. The family who runs the hotel is very nice. Cat Ba is beautiful but best to avoid the weekend which gets extremely busy.

The hotel offer a range of trips and will help you book you departure bus from the island too. Our room was beautiful and clean with a amazing view of the sea! For the price this hotel is a no brainier as the service you receive is above and beyond. We would particularly like to thank Teddy who looked after us during our 3 night stay. When we return to Cat Ba in the future we will definitely be staying here!

I did the day tour recommended by the hostel and it was exactly what I was after. Swimming. Kayaking. Relaxing. And great food on board. For those who want to enjoy the area but don’t want to be stuck on a boat, cat ba is the place to chill. Plenty of great food and super cheap beers nearby.
