There Once Was a Gem on the Shannon…
Limerick revels in one of Ireland’s most iconic views – the River Shannon curving past King John’s Castle, a 12th-century fortress that could have come straight from a Grimm fairytale. Frank McCourt wrote ‘Angela’s Ashes’ about his childhood here, and his former school is a museum about him, set amid elegant Georgian architecture in the Newtown Pery district. Equally attractive is the custom house, now housing the Hunt Museum's eclectic collection of art and artefacts.
The 12th-century St Mary’s Anglican Cathedral is the city’s oldest building used daily, while St John’s Catholic Cathedral has Ireland’s tallest spire. The coexistence of the two is symbolic of the 17th-century accord between Jacobites and Williamites, supposedly signed on the Treaty Stone.
The Milk Market is a bustling hub of local produce sellers, and the shops of pedestrian Cruises Street are surrounded by restaurants and bars offering great nightlife, including some where you can jig to traditional Irish folk tunes.
The city is also sports mad. Munster Rugby play in Thomond Park, while the Gaelic Grounds ring with the sounds of hurling and Gaelic football supporters. Golf courses, a racecourse and greyhound stadium complete the picture.

It's a nice city to stay in for a couple of days.
It's a nice city to stay in for a couple of days. It's better to do it over the weekend so that you can visit the local milk market and King John's castle. A half-day walk around the city, a half-day for the castle, and a couple of hours (in the morning!) for the milk market.

Limerick is a really friendly city.
Limerick is a really friendly city. There are loads of lovely places to eat at reasonable prices. Nice shops. Pretty castle. Loads of parking places. Milk market at the weekends is a nice place to go for a couple of hours. Lovely churches too. The story cafe is a super place for breakfast or lunch.

Surprising to discover the extensive number of fine residential roads into city centre with beautiful old properties. Lovely quayside for strolling and a great choice of cafes and restaurants. Very satisfied with all our choices. Didn't see everything Limerick has to offer so would be willing to return again.SUSAN - 10Scored 10
Limerick isn’t what I expected… it’s much nicer.
Limerick isn’t what I expected… it’s much nicer. The people are friendly and welcoming in most areas. Some areas are a little scary and wouldn’t like to be on my own but overall the city itself has a great buzz. Great restaurant options and copious amounts of coffee shops. Cool and trendy with traditional areas too.

We booked a king room.
We booked a king room. Unexpectedly, our room was actually a suite. We were presently surprised, and it was large enough to entertain our other couple who traveled with us. The one downside: we were on the front of the hotel, overlooking the street, and it was very noisy at night. The A/C didnt work in the hotel and we were on the 7th floor, so we slept with the windows opened. We were offered another fan, but declined, as the daytime temperature was comfortable with opened windows.Margo

As soon as you get out of the Hotel, the view of the River Shannon accompanied by Ireland's typical greenery, welcomes you. The Hotel's pub is an outstanding experience in itself....and the food served there is possibly the best food that I've had in my 6 days at Ireland. You don't have to ask the staff for anything.......because what you expected is already there.DAVIDMalta

The hotel room was 159 (over priced) and breakfast was an additional 15 - I went out to a cafe where I had coffee eggs on toast for €10. I mean it would be close to €200 to stay in Limerick on a Friday night in a 3star hotel - it is not the most memorable city in Ireland although I like my time when I’m there. That is just rip off Ireland - with respect to hotels - the are all over priced !

It's either 25-30 minutes by bus or 15-20 minutes by car. There's not much in Castletroy as far as tourist attractions are concerned.
