Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThere was indeed black mold in the bathrooms (as mentioned by other reviews). Other reviews had mentioned bed bugs, but that was not my experience. the mattress in my room had clearly been changed recently, so it seems they are dealing with the issue.
Location was great, check-in and check-out were easy, and the room was clean. Overall I feel like you get what you pay for. Walls are thin, and people are people (can be noisy), so expectations should be curbed.

It is a very good place for exploring the Belem area. Old building but acceptable state of maintenance. I happened to be alone in a 4-bed room .. .thus best experience.

United StatesMaybe the bathroom partition doors and shower doors could be upgraded. Also, a small lamp for low light during the evenings would be great.
The hostel staff are very nice, especially the cleaning staff, who went over and above helping me retrieve a replacement credit card for one that had been compromised during my travels. You can take any number of buses into Barrio Alto or other locales in the city center, but there's also a lot to do in Belem. Therethe Monastery, Tropical Botanical Garden, Mariners monument, Torre da Belem and Jardin Ajuda, as well was the Palace Ajuda. These are all within 5 mins to 25 mins walking distance.

MoroccoSome beds can be squeaky which will make a bit of noise at night (not a problem if you are a heavy sleeper). Also, the mattress might be uncomfortable for some but the staff was kind enough to offer me a much more comfy one so no complaints there.
One of the cleanest hostels I've been in. The shared bathrooms are cleaned daily. The 2 kitchens are well equipped and have all you need to cook your own food. The terrace is very cozy at night, and they also have a super cute fluffy dog. The location is great in the wonderful neighborhood of Belem just near the monastery (in my opinion this location is so much better than the center which can be unsafe at night). The staff was also kind enough to offer me a discount for my long stay of 22 nights (I was looking for accomodation at the time for my exchange in lisbon so I stayed in this hostel and I don't regret my choice)

IndiaRoom felt crowded and the upper berth made noise. Charging socket was limited to lower bed.
The common spaces were nice. Towels and locker keys were plus and staff was very friendly and accomodating. I moved here from a horrible night at Hostel de Chile at last minute and this one felt like heaven in comparison.

EstoniaThe room felt really cramped, especially when it was full of guests, and there seemed to be no privacy. Also, my bed didn't have a ladder to climb to the upper bunk. The beds were also creaky and shaky, and I could feel it when the girl below me moved.
Overall, the hostel was cozy and clean. The staff was helpful and kind, and the location was splendid since the monastery and the Belem tower were nearby. There was also a train station a short walk away. Additionally, there was a well-equipped kitchen for preparing meals and chatting with other guests.

NetherlandsThe matrasses and blankets were a bit too thin for my liking. Bunkbeds were not too stable. Good that I did not had a sleeper above me. Too many folks smoking in the garden, this can be annoying as the smokers do not take into account non-smokers.
